As promised here
some news about the nice Saturday I have spent with Tweed at the
Sight Hound championship show ("Raduno Club del Levriero, Padenghe
sul Garda, 30 April, 2011) she was entered: what a successful
day and what a positive start for her in the show ring!
The nice place (so huge, with lots of trees and lawns) helped
me to relax as I was a bit worried about the big number of dogs
that Tweed would have met…but it was ok as she’s
always happy to meet other dogs being very friendly both with
big and small dogs.
10 Deerhounds were entered at the show and all the owners were
so kind with us and very well impressed by Tweed’s quality.
In the ring Tweed was so well behaved and moved very well (better
that some dogs entered in other classes!). This is the judge’s
critique:
“VERY TYPICAL 5 MONTHS OLD PUPPY BITCH. SHE SHOWS A GREAT
DEAL OF QUALITY, MATCHING PERFECTLY THE BREED STANDARD IN ALL
TRAITS. LOVELY HEAD AND EXPRESSION, EXCELLENT BODY SHAPE, IDEAL
TYPE OF DEERHOUND. HER WELL BUILT HINDQUARTERS ALLOWS HER TO MOVE
FOR THE BEST ADVANTAGE AND VERY FREELY FOR A ONE SO YOUNG, NICE
TO SEE HER ON THE MOVE. IT’S A PLEASURE TO SEE SUCH A DEERHOUND
IN ITALY. VERY PROMISING, SURELY SHE WILL HAVE A BRILLIANT
CAREER, WAITING TO SEE HER IN THE RING
AS ADULT”.
In the afternoon, we have had another happy and successful moment
as Tweed was in the ring again to compete for the “Best
Puppy in show”…and she was BEST PUPPY IN SHOW!!!
(there were 6 hounds entered: an irish wolfhound, Tweed, a whippet,
a Galgo espanol, an azawahk and a saluki.
All the visitors by the ring side were very excited for her first
place...noisy clapping hands!!
..what a great moment. It was like jumping back in the past (1996)
when my very first border terrier bitch thrilled me winning the
1st place in the "Best puppy in show " of her first Club
show...
Now we take a rest, maybe we will be in Turin for the championship
show in the middle of June and then we will be back in the ring
in September. At the moment Tweed apart from playing with
the borders, is“nursing” Joga’s litter (it’s
real fun to see how gentle she is with the border t. pups at play,
even if I never leave when she is with them).
